Sana'a: A Yemeni court of appeal on Sunday sentenced four men to death and gave 12 others jail terms, ranging between eight and 12 years, for carrying out terrorist acts in Yemen during 2008.
The 16-member group, known as the Tareem cell, included four Syrians and one Saudi.
The sentence of the four Syrians was reduced from 15 to 10 years.
In July 2009 the Primary State Security Court sentenced six men to death and gave 10 others jail terms, between 8-15 years in length.
The trial of the group, for forming an armed gang to carry out terrorist acts in Hudhrmout, Aden and Sana’a provinces, started in March 2009.
They were accused of implementing multiple terrorist acts during 2008, in the three provinces, including a failed attack on the US embassy, when the mortars missed and were fired instead at a neighbouring girls’ school.
The gang was accused of killing two Belgian tourists and a Yemeni guide in Dawan valley, Hadhrmout in January 2008.
It is also said to have implemented the suicide attack on a security camp in Sayoun city where a soldier was killed and 17 others were injured in July 2008.
