Sana'a: Government forces in the Yemen's southern city of Taiz bombarded the city following clashes with armed tribesmen who tried to storm a government facility, leaving four dead and many injured, an eyewitness told Gulf News.

"The shells rain the residential places in the city and all of the victims are civilians. The bombardment started in the early hours of today and the bombs are still randomly striking the city "the eyewitness said.

Taiz city is the second largest city in Yemen and a local point for massive protesters that demands an end for the 33-year long regime of Ali Abdulla Saleh.
 
The recent escalation comes as the government  and opposition are close to strike a deal based on the GCC brokered initiative,local media reports said.
