Dubai: Emirates Red Crescent plans to spend around Dh400 million on rebuilding Yemen’s electricity, sanitation, health and water infrastructure.

Through the “Yemen We Care” campaign, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has continued its humanitarian and developmental efforts to help the people of Yemen and bring life back to normal by reconstructing vital sectors affected by the events in Yemen, including the health, education, infrastructure, electricity and the water.

Al Khaleej newspaper reported that Emirates Red Crescent has a special focus on the health sector and is currently working on rebuilding 15 health institutions in Aden. The Emirati charity organisation, which has already reopened many hospitals in Yemen, is also providing the necessary medicine and medical supplies.

In the education sector, the ERC plans on rebuilding a total of 154 schools in Aden. It has already completed the rehabilitation work of 64 schools and is currently working on rehabilitating 10. It has also contracted with companies to build 80 schools.

A recent report by the organisation revealed that it will be spending Dh4 million in rebuilding the Kod Al Nimer Corniche in Aden by maintaining the pavements and installing umbrellas.

According to the report, the ERC is working on reconstructing the sewage network in Aden at a cost of Dh5.7 million.

To rebuild the water sector in Aden, equipment worth around Dh5 million has been bought and a total of 22.7 million will be spent on the water project. A total of Dh217 million on the other hand will be spent on reconstructing a number of water plants in Aden and buying generators.

The UAE charity organisation will also be spending Dh16 million on rebuilding and developing eight gardens.

More than 70,000 Yemeni families have benefited from the ERC’s relief work.

The report concluded by stating that the total amount of all these projects will add up to Dh399,376,598.
