Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) continues to beef up its efforts aimed at restoring normality to Yemen and improving the lives of people affected by the political unrest there.

The ERC announced that more than Dh10 million will be allocated to rebuild the sewerage system in Aden, a project to be completed over two phases.

The first phase, which will cost up to Dh6 million, will provide the necessary equipment such as pumps and electrical panels, to make the sewerage system functional again. The installation of the equipment will be executed in phase two. In addition, a number of trucks, which cost Dh4.5 million, will be supplied to clean up Aden’s residential areas, giving Aden’s municipality a helping hand.

In addition, with an outlay of Dh48.5 million to bolster Yemen’s health care sector, Dh35 million will be spent on renovating existing hospitals and providing treatment to patients with kidney problems.

Three health centres will also be refurbished with the necessary health-related equipment to ensure that they are operating at the best way possible. This project has received Dh4 million. Nine health centres are also currently under maintenance, at a cost of Dh7 million, besides which Dh2 million has also been spent on renovating a number of medical centres in Khormaksar.

The ERC has also purchased medicines worth Dh4 million, particularly for those who are suffering from cancer. Moreover, Dh5 million has been allocated for ambulances and vehicles to carry medicines, amounting to a total of Dh9 million spent on initiatives to make medicines easily accessible.

Recently, the Restore Hope Hospital in Ramah was reopened after undergoing extensive renovation. Providing an array of new services, the hospital will offer free treatments and will also help in attending to emergency cases in Ramah.

Meanwhile, the ERC has also set out Dh4 million for repairing Aden’s Corniche, which will get a paved sidewalk as well as more green areas.

Eight parks will also be renovated in each of Aden’s districts at a cost of Dh16 million. The parks are expected to become more pedestrian-friendly with pavements, walkways and green areas.

The ERC has also organised a series of fun-filled events at a cost of Dh45,000, with Dh15,000 spent on each festival, to put a smile on the faces of young Yemenis.

The ERC has also set out Dh74,000 on projects for the families of Yemeni martyrs as well as children with special needs in Aden. These projects will include new hair salons for women and grocery stores, among others.
