Sana’a: A car bomb exploded at a hospital used as a base by Yemen’s Al Houthi movement on Sunday, killing or wounding dozens of people, tribal and local sources said.

The attack took place in Marib province, east of the capital Sana’a, the sources said.

Earlier, hundreds of Yemenis demonstrated in Sana’a demanding that Al Houthi rebels who had seized control of the capital last week leave, a day after the fighters attacked the home of the intelligence chief.

The Al Houthis, named after a Zaidi tribe based in the city of Saada some 540km to the north, have refused to quit Sana’a despite an agreement signed last Sunday to make the Houthis a part of the government.

Witnesses said activists chanted slogans against President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi for his apparent weakness before the Al Houthi fighters.

“You Hadi, find a solution, or else turn around and depart,” demonstrators chanted.

Witnesses said armed Al Houthi tribesmen, who had been patrolling the streets and operating checkpoints on key Sana’a intersections, did not try to stop the demonstration.

Yemenis are showing signs of discontent with the Al Houthis who have raided a number of homes as they continue to patrol Sana’a, especially around government buildings, and to search passers-by.

On Saturday, Al Houthi fighters tried to fight their way into the home of Yemen’s intelligence chief in Sana’a, in a clash that left one soldier and two tribesmen dead.
