Al Mukalla: A mass wedding for 100 physically disabled couples was organised on Sunday in Yemen’s port city of Aden.
The wedding was mainly funded by a Qatari charity and arranged by local NGOs.
Some of the grooms arrived in the wedding hall in wheel chairs while others were seen crawling. The organising NGOs said that the couples are mainly from Aden, Lahj, Dhale and Abyan provinces.
Thousands of young people who cannot afford to tie the knot on their own, benefit from such sponsored initiatives. The charities finance the wedding ceremonies as well as provide dowry and pocket money for the bride and groom.
Months after liberation of the strategic city from Iran-backed Al Houthi militants and fighters loyal to ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh security is improving. Beaches and markets are beaming with locals, but amid a wide presence of security forces due to sporadic attacks.
