Sana’a: Road accidents claimed the lives of 84 people across Yemen during the Eid Al Adha holidays, the ministry of interior has said.

Also, 310 people were injured in 159 accidents that included 68 collision accidents.

The ministry attributed the causes of the accidents to reckless driving and speeding.

Chewing Qat (a mild narcotic popular in Yemen) while driving, using mobile phones and bad roads were also blamed for the increase in accidents.

The ministry also claimed that the crime rate dropped by 30 per cent during Eid holidays. Police arrested 347 people involved in crimes varying from intentional killing, shooting to robbery.
