ADEN: All the inmates of Aden’s Al Mansoura Central Prison are detained on criminal convictions, Yemen’s National Commission to investigate alleged human rights violations has confirmed, after visiting Al Mansoura Central Prison in Aden.
The committee members also paid a number of visits to several hospitals in the provisional Yemeni capital and corroborated that detainees are receiving health care services. This includes those belonging to the Iran-backed Al Houthi militias, who are being treated in the city’s hospitals.
Members of the committee, Judge Sabah Al Alwani and Judge Jihad Abdul Rasul, met inmates of the Al Mansoura Prison as well as the prison manager Gassan Abdul Bari, who provided official reports that all prisoners are enjoying their full legal and humanitarian rights, and that they were being interrogated by the prosecution. Many were put on trial, and some also released.
Abdul Bari expressed astonishment at reports about alleged forced disappearances, noting that the total number of inmates in the prison was around 245, with 27 being released.
Ali Jameel, the Undersecretary of the Specialised Penal Prosecution at Al Mansoura Central Prison, told the National Committee members that the prison is subject to the supervision of the Yemeni Attorney General and the prosecution was working to go through all the cases, with some inmates being released and others being sent for trial.
The committee members also visited a number of detainees and injured persons belonging to the Iran-backed Al Houthi militias, who said they were detained after being injured, and were transferred by the Yemeni National Army and Resistance to hospitals for treatment.
The committee members paid field visits to those displaced and migrants from the governorates of Taiz and Hodeida in the Al Kalou’a area in Al Shaab city.
