Aden: A Yemeni intelligence officer was seriously wounded on Sunday when a bomb planted in his car exploded in the main southern city of Aden, a security official said.

“A bomb placed in Colonel Faisal Ganem’s car exploded the minute he climbed into the car parked outside his home,” said the official, adding Al Qaida was suspected to be behind the attack.

Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, has intensified its attacks on security forces in Yemen, taking advantage of the weakening of the Sana’a central government since a popular uprising that toppled president Ali Abdullah Saleh in 2011.
