Dubai: Weekend weather may be unstable with chances of rain, dust and sand storms in scattered parts of the country, especially in the northern and eastern part of the UAE, the weather bureau warned.

A low pressure over northeast Iran moving southward over Iran is affecting the weather conditions over the northern and eastern parts of the UAE. Clouds forming over Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and other northern emirates may cause rainfall in scattered parts of these emirates by midday Friday.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology has warned motorists that visibility may deteriorate due to dust and sand storms caused by fresh and, at times, strong northwesterly winds blowing 40km/h to 56km/h. This northwesterly wind is already packed with sand in the upper air coming from Kuwait and northern Saudi Arabia.

Temperatures will drop between five and seven degrees Celsius due to the blowing wind, pegging temperatures at 21C to 23C during daytime.

“This phenomenon is normal in the country at this time of the year because we are in the transition season during February and March. We are transitioning to spring,” a forecaster told Gulf News.

By Saturday, strong winds may blow northward and eastward, blowing dust and sand. Scattered rains are to be expected until 10am.

The weather bureau has warned residents against going off to sea as it will be very rough to rough in Arabian Gulf and rough in Oman sea.
