Al Ain: Scattered light rain and drizzle fell in Dubai, Al Ain, and other coastal and desert cities on Wednesday in a relatively prolonged stint of unsettled weather in the UAE.

Weather forecasters said the spell of light rain may continue at least until Friday, which would make the weekend pleasant but unsuitable for desert camping and sea trips.

Drivers were warned that it could be risky on the highways due to strong winds, flying sand and dust, and low horizontal visibility.

The weather radar image yesterday afternoon showed much of the UAE area was under clouds, with scattered rain in and around Dubai, lower coastal areas, Al Ain and its adjacent areas and the western region of Abu Dhabi.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) also issued repeated weather alerts, advising people to expect low and towering clouds with the possibility of rain at times, and windy conditions on the coast and the Arabian Gulf waters.

A forecaster said rain and unsettled weather was not unusual in the UAE in the months of April and May since they were the seasonal transitional months.

He said the current system had not created much disturbance in the emirates, but had caused heavy flooding in Saudi Arabia.

The NCMS said partly cloudy conditions would continue, with high humidity, and temperatures lower than usual. Yesterday reached 28°C on the coast, 38°C in the interior.
