Al Ain: Light to moderate rain hit different areas on Tuesday as the unstable weather continues in the UAE and neighbouring countries.

The overcast conditions, strong winds, and rain has contributed in lowering temperatures across the emirates and forecasters expect more light rain in the next two days at least. "We expect the chances of light rain at least up to Thursday," said a forecaster.

The unsettled weather, which has affected outdoor activities to a degree, has also been creating problems for motorists and fishermen. Strong winds have been kicking up dust and sand in open areas and generating high waves in the Arabian Gulf waters.

The horizontal visibility yesterday went down to less than 1,000 meters in some areas, particularly in Abu Dhabi's western region. Light rain hit parts of Dubai and other coastal areas early yesterday morning but later it turned cloudy and then cleared up.

Warning

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has also placed the alert level to yellow which warns people to be careful when organising outdoor activities as it may involve risks. The centre issues a fresh alert every three hours.

The centre said the weather is in its seasonal transition phase and unsettled conditions are normal during this month. "It's a time of contrasting conditions as summer season has been approaching," said a forecaster.

Yesterday, cloudy weather continued over scattered areas. The amount of clouds increased over coastal areas and eastern mountains with some dark towering clouds. Light to moderate winds blew in general but their intensity was strong over the sea and open land where they kicked up dust and sand.

Forecasters said that a system has been sucking moisture from the Indian Ocean over north-eastern Africa and pushing it towards Iran via the Red Sea and the Arabian Peninsula. Over the last several days, there has been no major change in wind direction.

Cloudy weather

The NCMS forecast said the weather will be partly cloudy in general today and tomorrow. The amount of clouds will increase gradually over different areas with chances of rain and slight drop in temperatures. Chances of rain are higher for tomorrow morning.

The maximum temperatures remained between 24 to 34 degrees Celsius in the coastal areas, followed by 23 to 38 degrees Celsius in the inland areas, and 16 to 32 degrees Celsius in the mountainous areas.
