Ras Al Khaimah: Strong wind and heavy rain lashed the northern parts of Ras Al Khaimah on Tuesday, destroying several electric posts, trees and asbestos ceilings of several houses and garages.

However, the authorities have announced that no casualties have been reported.

Northern parts of Ras Al Khaimah - including Khor Khowair, Ghaleelah, Shaam, Al Rams, Wadi Ghaleelah and Wadi Shaam - were badly affected by the change in weather.

Rain started early in the morning and remained for several hours, during which time the residents of these areas were on high alert and were asked by the frequent police patrols in their areas to stay in their homes.

Electricity was cut off in the emirate’s northern parts for several hours before the situation in these areas came under control.

The main street leading to the various areas of the northern parts of the emirate was closed and an alternative route for the vehicles was put in place.

The heavy vehicles were temporarily stopped from moving in these areas to facilitate traffic flow and remove the destroyed electric posts, trees and ceilings.

Police vehicles spread in the area to control the situation and provide the residents of the affected areas with the necessary assistance.

A fire broke out in a key electric post in Wadi Al Beeh expanding the power cut in the northern parts of Ras Al Khaimah. The fire was reported to the emirate’s Civil Defence Department which sent its vehicles and fire fighters to put it under control.

Fire fighters managed to control the fire. The emergency section of Fewa carried on working to restore electricity to the affected areas.
