Dubai: Students across the UAE were sent home from school on Thursday morning as a recautionary measure to ensure their safety following heavy rains and wind the country witnessed.

The school closures disrupted the daily routine for parents, some of whom, had to leave their jobs and personally retrieve their children from schools.

Following the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology’s (NCMS) warning about the unstable weather, the Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) called on schools to close for the day to make sure the students arrive home safely.

Earlier this week, the NCMS has warned against the unstable weather which is expected to cause rainfall, moderate to strong wind and rising dust on Thursday and Friday.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Education, public and private schools were directed to close at 10am to ensure the safety of the students. Ali Mihad Al Suwaidi Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry said that safety of the students is the ministry’s priority.

The KHDA also issued a statement that read: “Due to extreme weather conditions the KHDA has advised all schools and nurseries in Dubai to close for the day, to ensure children get home safely.”
