Al Ain: Scattered rains were reported in various parts of the country yesterday as unsettled weather continues to dominate the Arabian region.

It was drizzle to light rain in the coastal cities such as Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, and a number of UAE islands in the Arabian Gulf. Some showers were also reported in the western region of Abu Dhabi. It was partly cloudy in Al Ain and most of the eastern and southern parts of the UAE.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), 6.2mm of rain were recorded on Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, 2.8mm in Al Faqqa, 2.2mm in Al Shuaib and Umm Al Quwain, 1.6mm in Das Island, 0.8mm in Falaj Al Mullah and Suwaihan, 0.6mm in Al Dhaid, 0.4mm in Abu Dhabi, and a number of other areas up to 3pm yesterday.

The NCMS has warned people to be careful of the unsettled weather conditions. It is expected to continue for a few more days with scattered light rain especially in the coastal and northern areas.

A forecaster said the weather is unsettled but it cannot be called severe by any means. Chances of rain and thunderstorms still exist in the region. He said the current weather system started developing from Thursday and is likely to settle down after Friday.

During this period it is expected to affect countries from Egypt to Syria, Iraq to Saudi Arabia, and from Kuwait to the UAE, Iran and Pakistan.

The NCMS has been advising people, including fishermen, to stay away from the sea since it is rough with waves several feet high. Strong north-westerly winds have been making the sea rough.

The system had also pushed the warmer southerly winds into the UAE that led to a temperature rise over the last few days. A slight fall in temperature is expected from tomorrow with a change in wind direction.

The police and weather forecasters have advised motorists to take precautions in rainy and windy conditions.
