Dubai: Scattered showers are likely on Saturday and Sunday in the western coastal areas of the UAE and it will be cloudy and hazy during the day across the country with temperatures dropping in the night.

The temperature will drop down to 17 degree Celsius in some areas, cool enough for protective clothing, according to the met office.

The partly cloudy weather will be pleasant during the day with daytime temperatures hovering around 22 degree Celsius. It will continue to be bitterly cold in the mountainous areas, with temperatures of 3 degree Celsius, according to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology in Abu Dhabi.

Humidity will be high in the coastal areas such as Dubai, going up to 95 per cent, that will make it foggy and misty early in the morning. In the interior areas such as Abu Dhabi, humidity will be even higher, reaching 99 per cent.

Motorists are urged to drive carefully and not to switch on their hazard lights when driving through fog.  Driving blind and fast through the fog had caused pile-ups last month and Abu Dhabi has set up a fog warning system for motorists.

Dubai Police now also issues warnings through the social media such as Twitter. Police urge motorists to keep enough space in the car in front, reduce speed in foggy weather and not to recklessly overtake.

The North-Westerly winds will be moderate, reaching 40 km/h at times, raising dust in the internal areas and reducing visibility.

The Gulf waters will continue to be moderate, turning to rough, churning up offshore waves of nearly 8 feet near Oman.
