Abu Dhabi: Heavy rains and strong winds will continue to lash UAE on Friday and Saturday, the National Meteorological Weather Centre said during a press conference.
“People around the UAE are advised to stay away from valleys and not to venture out to sea. Motorists should leave sufficient space between vehicles while driving and avoid speeding and overtaking and always use indicators,” Colonel Juma Salim Al Dahmani, assistant director general of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Department, said.
Several teams have been formed to deal with possible emergencies during the coming days.
Heavy rain has been lashing Al Ain, Hatta and some other eastern parts of the country on Thursday afternoon, with a renewed risk of flash floods in the mountain valleys.
Forecasters expect a five degrees plunge in temperature on Thursday night. Rain is also expected in the coastal areas as the forecast indicate light to heavy rain at times in different parts of the country until Saturday afternoon.
An Asian man was severely injured in Al Ruwais area and he was safely transferred to Al Ruwais Hospital to receive treatment.
Three men were rescued by the Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing in Ras Al Khaimah after being swept away in a wadi flood. They have been transferred to hospital for treatment.
Abu Dhabi Police has received several calls and complaints from people residing in Delma Island, Al Selaa and Al Ghuwaifat. Strong winds and heavy rains caused simple damages to some properties, trees and signboards.
“People have reported simple damages in their houses, some uprooting trees and fall of signboards,” Colonel Juma Salim Al Dahmani, assistant director general of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Department, said during a press conference held in the capital.
Police, emergency services and municipality teams are working around the clock to restore normalcy in the affected areas. Authorities are reminding the public to be extra careful, with more rains and storms expected all across the UAE within the coming days.
No deaths had been reported.
