Al Ain: People enjoyed light to moderate rain in Jebel Ali and some parts of the northern emirates on Sunday, with the forecast predicting more scattered rain on Monday.

The unsettled weather continues across the emirates and mercury has dipped a few degrees since Thursday.

Cold conditions have set in in the mountainous area and deep in the desert. People across the country, however, have been enjoying the pleasantly cool temperature across the country.

Forecasters said rain fell in Jebel Ali area at around 9am, followed by some showers in Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and some parts of central Sharjah.

Ahmad Mujtaba, a van driver in Dubai, said he was going to Jebel Ali at around 9.15am when rain started on a section of Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road. “I love this weather and it’s really enjoyable to drive in rainy condition,” he said. The weather is not yet uncomfortably cold, he said.

A duty forecaster said: “We expect some more rain on Sunday night and Monday in coastal, northern, and eastern parts of the emirates.”

The weather was partly cloudy in general on Sunday but it became cloudy at times in the northern, western and coastal areas with scattered rain.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the condition would continue to be windy and partly cloudy to cloudy at times especially in the western and the northern areas and in the UAE’s islands in the Arabian Gulf on Monday.

Winds will be blowing at moderate speed at first, becoming strong at times over the sea especially during the cloudy conditions. Sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf as well as in the Sea of Oman. Similar conditions are also expected on Tuesday, according to the NCMS.

The national weather bureau has also warned fishermen to refrain from venturing out into the sea. Motorists have been advised to exercise caution in windy or rainy conditions and be prepared for sudden weather changes.
