Al Ain: Blazing sunshine and high humidity in much of the country and scattered rain in some eastern and northern areas continue to test peoples’ nerves amid warnings from forecasters and police.

Light to moderate rain fell on Tuesday in central Sharjah, including Al Dhaid, which provided residents momentary relief even as the mercury shot up to 45 degrees Celsius elsewhere.

People in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and some other coastal cities reported very hot weather and high humidity, saying the conditions were tough. Residents of Al Ain are also facing sweltering weather conditions.

Forecasters also warn of dusty winds and partly cloudy weather, especially in the northern and eastern emirates, asking people to be careful in the mountainous areas. Flash floods are regular affairs in Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Fujairah valleys due to the rain.

Moderate to heavy rain hit Ras Al Khaimah valleys for three consecutive days in a row until Monday. Police have also warned people to stay away from valleys and drive with care in flooded valleys and on rain-soaked mountainous roads.

Forecasters have warned motorists to exercise caution on highways and areas affected by unstable conditions which cause strong winds, low vision and blowing dust and sand. They also advised people to check the weather status with the Met department before going for long drives.

A forecaster told Gulf News on Tuesday that ground water level has steadily been increasing in the northern and eastern areas thanks to the recent spate of rains, lashing Ras Al Khaimah, and parts of Sharjah, Al Ain, Fujairah and the mountainous region of neighbouring Oman.
