Dubai: UAE residents woke up to another freak weather pattern on Sunday after a pleasant weekend.

Motorists heading to work had to not only negotiate the morning traffic, but also the thin veil of dust enveloping the country.

The wind wasn't blowing that hard, but sand and dust were floating in open areas and highways, said a motorist who travels to work in Abu Dhabi from Dubai.

Sand almost covered the roads near the seaside in Sharjah and it was difficult driving, said Ram Gopal, a Sharjah-Dubai commuter.

It wasn't that windy, but there was sand and dust everywhere; in fact it was a humid and clear day on Saturday, it turned dusty suddenly on Sunday morning, said a Bur Dubai resident heading to work in Al Safa area in Dubai.

The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology in Abu Dhabi has not put out any weather warning or alerted about sudden change in the weather pattern.

Today's forecast says hot weather in general and hazy at times during the daytime, with a chance of towering clouds over the mountainous areas by afternoon.

Winds will be light to moderate, causing blowing dust /sand over some internal areas, said the centre.

My child was looking for an excuse for not going to school, but it wasn't as bad as the sandstorm that hit the country sometime back, said a woman all decked up to celebrate mother's day.

The situation will, in all probability, remain the same on Monday too, predicted the weather centre.
