Dubai: After almost two days of thunderstorms and rain, weather forecasters on Tuesday raised new warnings for motorists to be extra cautious late evening Tuesday until early morning Wednesday as visibility could deteriorate due to fog.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) warned the public on its official Twitter account on Tuesday “of the possibility of fog formation over some interior areas by late night and Wednesday early morning”.

The new forecast came after almost two days of moderate to heavy rain, accompanied by hail, in scattered parts of the country on Monday and Tuesday.

According to the weather bulletin of NCMS for Wednesday, the overall weather in the country will remain partly cloudy. Coastal and interior areas will have increased cloud cover, with a chance of light rain in the morning.

Both the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea will continue to be rough.

The unstable weather due to the low pressure in the Mediterranean saw a thunderstorm peaking from late evening on Monday to pre-dawn Tuesday, accompanied by heavy rain.

Rainclouds moved northwards lashing the northern emirates and flooding low-lying areas.

Ras Al Khaimah resident Ben Navarro said virtually all streets in the city were flooded.

“The clouds seemed to have just dumped a huge amount of water on us and floodwaters rose knee-deep maybe within a span of five to 10 minutes,” Navarro told Gulf News.

“The raindrops drummed on my car making this loud sound when I was driving. My wiper didn’t help; visibility was zero so we had to stop. That’s when we saw many cars stuck in the water,” he added.

He said the municipality immediately deployed tankers to pump out the water in low-lying areas, especially on main roads.

Fatima, an Emirati resident in Fujairah, said the same was true in her emirate.
