Mercury jumps to 50 degrees Celsius in some areas, making fasting difficult

- Forecasters had predicted extremely hot weather in the first ten days of Ramadan all over the Arabian Peninsula.
People are avoiding outdoor activities given the tough conditions.
In towns such Al Ain, Suwaihan and Umm Al Zumol, forecasters have reported temperatures of 50 degrees Celsius and above. Even Abu Dhabi city saw the temperature rising to 47 degrees Celsius.
Conditions are also tough in Dubai, Sharjah, and coastal cities, including Fujairah. The maximum temperature shot up to 44 degrees Celsius in Dubai, 43C in Sharjah, and 47C in Al Ain.
The high humidity has only made the heat worse.
The seasonal monsoon influence has been affecting parts of the UAE and light to moderate rain has been reported in the last two days.

People were surprised by sudden rain in Zakhir district of Al Ain, Liwa, and Bu Hamra areas on Saturday evening.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has continuously been reporting the probability of towering clouds over the eastern, mountainous, and some southern areas.
The light and mostly scattered rain has, however, not been giving any relief to the residents. Instead, it increases the level of humidity.
Forecasters had indicated extremely hot weather in the first 10 days of Ramadan all over the Arabian Peninsula, including the UAE.
Humidity can become extremely high at times producing severe stress on the human body. The combination of high temperatures and high humidity can make atmospheric conditions distressing.
According to the NCMS, the weather will continue to be hot and hazy in the next 24 hours with clouds in the eastern areas by afternoon.
Easterly and south-easterly winds will be blowing at moderately rough speeds in general but could gain more speed at times.
This could lead to dust and sand blowing in the internal areas.
Easterly and sough-easterly winds are likely to be replaced by north-westerly winds in the afternoon in the coastal areas that could raise the humidity level.
The sea will be slight to moderately rough in general.
