Dubai: Expect slightly foggy conditions, especially along the coast and western parts of the UAE, on Sunday.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said there are chances of medium to heavy fog blanketing northern and eastern coastal areas and the western part of the UAE early on Sunday.

“We’re expecting medium foggy conditions tomorrow in most areas, but not as bad as it was on Saturday,” a forecaster said. He urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads.

Light fog covered the whole country late on Friday night and became heavier at about 4am on Saturday.

Visibility was reduced to 50 metres in Liwa on Saturday morning and to 250 to 300 metres in Abu Dhabi. The forecaster said police officials reported that in some areas, visibility was almost zero.

The fog will clear as the day breaks with increase in air temperature. Sea conditions will be moderate in general.

The foggy conditions were caused by relative humidity coming in from the ocean with the northwesterly flow that was pushed upward by a high pressure system. The high pressure system and relative humidity resulted in condensation, hence the fog.
