Dubai: Al Ain, Dubai, Sharjah and other eastern parts of the country will experience foggy conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday, the national weather bureau warned.

Thick fog enveloped the western parts and other areas of the country early on Monday, causing flight disruptions at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, which closed from 7.30am to 8.50am.

“The Abu Dhabi [International] Airport recorded visibility of 200 metres on Monday morning, while the lowest visibility was recorded in Liwa and Al Dhafra at 50 metres. Many other areas experienced poor visibility of about 1,000 metres to 3,000 metres,” a forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology told Gulf News.

The forecaster warned motorists to take extra caution on the roads as the same weather system will prevail over the country on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fog formation, however, will move eastward covering Al Ain, Dubai and northern internal areas like Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.

Fog will form before midnight and will last until 10am in some areas on the same days.

In Abu Dhabi on Monday, thick fog subsided by 9am in most areas except for the roads leading to Musaffah area and over some islands in Abu Dhabi, which lasted until midday.

This weather system is due to stable conditions such as clear skies, variable winds and the huge amount of water vapour in the air or humidity, the forecaster said, adding that temperatures will still range between 25 degrees Celsius and 29C.

Fresh northwesterly winds will cause the Arabian Gulf to be rough from midday on Tuesday to Wednesday evening, he said.
