Dubai: Renewal of vehicle registration will soon be possible from the convenience of shopping centres as well as Metro stations in Dubai, Gulf News can confirm.

The registration facility will be part of a series of services, including renewal of driving licence, payment of fines, applying for seasonal car parking, that the Roads and Transport Authority will roll out through smart kiosks set to be installed across malls in the city.

As many as six smart kiosks have already been installed at various RTA customer service centres and 10 more have been lined up for installation in the next few month.

Ahmad Mahboob, Director of RTA’s Customers Service, said that the smart kiosks initiative is part of RTA’s vision to provide services round the clock at convenient locations, as directed by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“The smart kiosk is part of our strategy towards enhancing customer satisfaction in terms of saving their time and effort in processing their transactions. The service has proved successful so far with 73,000 transactions processed through the kiosks, which has encouraged us to go with ahead with our plans,” said Mahboob.

He added that in the first phase the kiosks are being installed at the RTA customer service centres to make people familiar with its operations.

“We have done a study of high footfall areas across Dubai, particularly malls and Metro stations and, in the next phase, probably early next year, we will install the smart kiosks at these popular locations so that people can access RTA services at their convenience,” Mahboob said.

Highlighting the services provided by the kiosks, Mahboob said: “Renewal of vehicle registration can be done through the kiosks in less than a minute and the cards are issued immediately, while accessing the same service online means the cards are dispatched after a couple of days.”

All that one requires to access the service is a valid Emirates ID and a credit card. However, other payment options like NFC [near field communication] and Nol payment will soon be available.

“The machine is NFC-enabled and we will activate the payment option soon. We are also considering payment of fees through Nol cards,” explained Mahboob.

Interestingly, the device is fitted with a camera-cum-phone to offer instant audio-visual assistance in case the customer experiences any procedural or technical glitch.

Currently, the kiosks are available at customer service centres at Deira, Al Ramool, Al Barsha, Al Twar Registration Centre and Jumeirah Beach Residence.
