Sharjah: Two people are dead following an early morning accident on Monday involving two four-wheel drive vehicles along Maleiha Road, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News.

Police investigation showed that the drivers of the two vehicles (two brothers) may have been racing before the younger brother lost control of his vehicle and hit the other vehicle.

Police have not confirmed racing was involved pending further investigation.

The young brother’s vehicle then overturned several times leading to his death and that of an 18-year-old passenger.

The incident took place at around 1.30am on Monday.

According to police, the older brother did not stop to find out what happened and instead continued to drive down the road.

Then, later, when the older brother returned to the scene of the accident, he was told by police that his younger brother and his friend were dead and were transported to Al Qasimi Hospital. The older brother went to hospital to check on his brother.

The two who died were a 17–year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger sitting in the front seat of the vehicle that overturned.

The deceased was driving without a driving licence, the official said.
