Abu Dhabi: Beginning Tuesday, the Mawaqif paid parking system will be applicable to the multi-storey car park of Zayed City Market, near the intersection of East Street and Zayed Second Street.

The new services will cover all existing 24/7 parking bays, an official said on Sunday.

The new service is part of Mawaqif 2010 plan with the aim to manage car parking facilities and spaces in Abu Dhabi by helping motorists easily find a parking bay during the day, said Engineer Najib Al Zarouni, General Manager of Parking at the Department of Transport.

Paid parking is to be enforced from 8am to 9pm, Saturdays to Thursdays, at a rate of Dh2 per hour or Dh15 per day.

Fines

Vehicles parked illegally or in a disorderly fashion would be fined at all times, even Fridays and public holidays.

Al Zarouni added Mawaqif was created to serve the community and its role was not limited to the implementation of paid parking services.

The Department of Transport has said it is introducing additional services and has issued tenders for automated parking machines in a variety of locations.

The aim was to provide comprehensive and sustainable solutions to address a growing demand for parking.

Customer service representatives would be available to help the public at the Department of Transport Customer Service Centre, a department spokesman said.
