Dubai: The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finalised the replacement of the previous black taxi licensing plates with new plates that have distinctive yellow colour. The process, which started on August 4, aims to enhance, improve and sustain the aesthetic appearance of mass transport modes in Dubai.
“DTC has set out a time frame to finalise the process of plating 3,503 taxicabs within two weeks from starting from August 4 at a rate of 250 vehicles per day. However, the process was completed in five work days only at a rate of 700 vehicles per day, thanks to the huge efforts of the team set up by Fleet Operations Department that worked round the clock to get the job done. The team was honoured for completing the project in a record time in a ceremony held at DTC premises and attended by senior officials of DTC and Public Transport Agency,'' said Ahmed Al Hammadi, Acting CEO of RTA Dubai Taxi Corporation.
He added: “All the previous black taxi number plates have been instantly destroyed and registered to ensure that they have been entirely destroyed and handed over to RTA Licensing Agency.
“The drive to switch taxi licensing plates from black to yellow in the emirate of Dubai has been introduced in conformity with the project of redesigning the colour and logo of Dubai Taxi fleet recently undertaken by the RTA. The project aims at improving and redefining the technical specifications of taxi plates through painting them with fast colours, minimizing customer complaints from the illegible black plates (particularly at night), and reducing the service outage; which will accordingly result in enhanced operational efficiency,'' added Al Hammadi.
Al Hammadi also revealed that all franchise companies operating taxicabs in Dubai (Arabia Taxi, National Taxi, Cars Taxi and Metro Taxi) were engaged in fitting the new plates such that the whole process was set to be finalised during August. RTA used a German technology in manufacturing these aluminum plates, the yellow painting, and the reflective agent.
