Abu Dhabi: A 50-year-old Asian woman sustained major injuries in an accident while she was crossing the road in Abu Dhabi.

The accident took place in Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed road (Airport Road) in Al Wahda region at the intersection towards Abu Dhabi city.

The victim was knocked down by a car driven by an Arab national and was rushed to Shaikh Khalifa Medical Center where she remains under care.

Ahmad Al Zaidi, head of serious accidents division in Abu Dhabi Police, Traffic and Patrol department attributed the accident to high speed and reckless driving, and to the fact the woman didn’t cross the street in a designated area.

Al Zaidi appealed to the motorists to be cautious while driving and to pedestrians to use designated crossing areas such as footpaths and pedestrians' tunnels when crossing the streets.
