Two die in Al Ain road accident
Two people, including an Emirati and an Arab expatriate, died and two others injured in a road accident on Al Hair-Suweihan Road in the outskirts of Al Ain city on Friday.
Al Ain: Two people, including an Emirati and an Arab expatriate, died and two others injured in a road accident on Al Hair-Suweihan Road in the outskirts of Al Ain city on Friday.
Traffic police said speeding and careless driving caused the accident. The accident occurred at around 11. 30pm when a vehicle, driven by an Emirati, abruptly changed lanes from the middle to the right and hit the other car.
Both vehicles were being driven at high speed, said the police, and veered off the road after the collision. They first went onto the pavement and then into the sand for eight metres.
Both the vehicles were destroyed in the accident and their occupants were trapped inside the wreckage. The two drivers died on the spot and police identified them as H.M.M, a 17-year-old Emirati, and A.S.M, 25-year-old Arab expatriate.
A unit of the Police Rescue and Ambulance Service later recovered the bodies and shifted the injured to Al Ain Hospital.
Both the injured persons are Arab expatriates who police have identified as O.S.M, 19 and G.S.S, 27. They sustained moderate injuries and are recovering.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Khalifa Al Khaili, Head of Al Ain Traffic Police and Patrols Section, said the accident was a result of speed limit violation and careless driving. The occupants of both cars were also not wearing seat belts.
"Drivers must follow the speed limits and take precaution while changing lanes on all internal and external road of the city," he said.
