Abu Dhabi: Although there was slow progress in the movement of trucks entering Saudi Arabia through Al Ghuwaifat border check post yesterday, a tailback stretching more than 10 kilometres persisted until evening, truck drivers told Gulf News on Wednesday.

There was a slight improvement in the movement of trucks by afternoon but it would take two or three days for the queue to clear up, Saeed, an Indian trucker, said.

Drivers said slow clearance by border authorities had been prolonging their wait for two weeks now.

A senior UAE official said on Tuesday that steps were being taken to resolve the situation. "We have sent senior officials to the border to sort out the problem in consultation with Saudi authorities," said Major General Nasser Al Awadi Al Menhali, acting assistant-undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Naturalisation and Residency.
