Dubai: Trains for the Dubai Metro will run 18 hours a day from 6am to midnight.
"We cannot have a 24-hour operation because the metro is a safety critical system and we have to stop operations for maintenance and repairs," said Abdul Majid Al Khaja, Chief Executive Officer of the Rail Agency at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Al Khaja said that daily maintenance of trains and the track is required to ensure safe operation of the metro.
"Depending on the ridership, trains will be operation from 6am to 12am and it will be the maximum time of the daily operation," he said.
The number of trains and frequency of trains will also depend on the ridership during peak and off-peak hours. It will be reduced and increased accordingly.
Al Khaja said the trains for the Dubai Metro will be "quiet" and residents and motorists will not be disturbed by noise.
No vibration
There will be no vibration and hardly any sound, the passenger sitting inside a train will not hear any road noise while residents in buildings along the elevated and underground tracks will not feel any vibration or noise.
Around 44 trains will run on the Red Line at the time of its launch.
Once fully operational, a total of 79 trains will run on both lines of the Metro, comprising 62 on the Red Line and 17 trains on the Green Line.
