Dubai: Motorists can look forward to smooth traffic flow on currently congested roads around Rashid Hospital once new road improvement projects in this area has been completed, said a senior official.
"We have launched new projects to improve the road network around Rashid Hospital, the most frequented hospital in the city, to ease traffic congestion," said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The RTA has awarded a Dh705 million contract for the road projects around the hospital. The improved road network will provide uninterrupted access to motorists coming from Umm Hurair and Tariq Bin Ziyad Road to the Rashid Hospital and the Floating Bridge.
The project involves the construction of roads and two underpasses, each consisting of two lanes, to serve the traffic flow from Tariq Bin Ziyad and Umm Hurair Roads towards the junction of Al Riyadh Road leading to the Floating Bridge.
The first underpass extends from Tariq Bin Ziyad Road to Rashid Hospital and will also lead motorists to Riyadh Road and the Floating Bridge.
The second underpass extends from Umm Hurair Road passing under Oud Metha Park and leads to Riyadh Road.
"The junction of Al Riyadh Road with the extension of the Floating Bridge will be transformed into a four-way junction. The project also includes the widening Tariq Bin Ziyad Road, as well as improvements of Oud Metha and Umm Hurair Roads.
"A service road will be constructed to serve traffic outbound from the Floating Bridge towards Tariq Bin Ziyad Road," added Al Tayer.
