Traffic Department launches safety campaign

Last updated:

Dubai: In its effort to increase awareness on safety traffic regulations, Dubai Traffic Department recently opened a traffic village to educate primary school children through interactive activities.

The traffic awareness village to be held over the next two months at the children's city in Creek Park, Dubai, will have a number of shows, lectures, tours, and activities to educate children in grade one to three about safety rules and regulations in the country.

The initiative is launched in coordination with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). More than 35,000 school children and thousands of visitors to the park are expected to benefit from it.

Interactive awareness is considered one of the effective tools for educating children as it will illustrate the consequences of reckless driving and violating safety regulations, said Major General Khamis Mattar Al Muzainah, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police. He added that it is an opportunity for the children to interact with traffic officers and understand what they should do in case of an emergency.

About two or three schools are expected to participate daily in over an hour tour of interactive exercises with around 70 school children per tour.

The daily programme of the Traffic Village includes more than six interesting windows tailor-made to attract kids of various ages such as: The cycling track equipped with 20 bikes compatible with safety specifications for all age groups starting from three years, as well as television and cartoon movies focussing on traffic awareness.

Two new safety belt models will be on offer and they are expected to be a source of popular attraction.
