Dubai:  A new three-wheel "scooter car" that has taken the US by storm has finally arrived in Dubai.

ScootCoupe Dubai is currently selling the small scooter cars - ScootCoupe - to residents and plans to launch a rental service for tourists.

The two-seater vehicles, priced at Dh39,000, are about the size of Smart cars and can hit a maximum speed of 100km/h.

They have a windscreen and are driven using handlebar controls.

Izzat Rustom, the company's managing director, decided to bring the cars to the emirate after seeing them in Hawaii, California and along the Las Vegas strip.

"They are fun, safe, easy and awesome to drive. They have GPS tracking and you can connect an iPod as well. It's a completely different way to see the city in your own time," Rustom said.

The cars are not suitable for motorways like Shaikh Zayed Road or Emirates Road, but can be driven on Al Wasl, Rustom added.

"The wonderful thing about these cars is that everyone notices them. The vehicle is a real head-turner," he said.
