Sharjah: Police have seized 39 noisy vehicles in the emirate as per orders issued by His Highness Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The police seized 33 vehicles in the city of Sharjah, two in the Eastern Region, and four in the Central Region of the emirate.

Colonel Shawaf Mohammad Abdul Rahman, Director General of the Traffic and Patrols department in the General Directorate of Sharjah Police, told the Arabic daily Al Bayan that all noisy cars and motorcycles were seized because they cause a disturbance citizens and expatriates in residential areas.

Colonel Abdul Rahman said that a committee has been formed to man checkpoints where officers will inspect vehicles for illegal modifications and impound those found violating the rules.

He added that he has coordinated with the concerned department that specializes in vehicle testing, which will have the final say on whether the car violates the order or not.

"Sharjah is considered a pioneer in such orders which serve the public. The streets are currently free of any noisy vehicles. Previously, noisy cars used to be caught and impounded, the driver would pay the fine, and once the car is out of confiscation the driver would repeat the offence. Now, the law is much more strict, and the car is seized," Abdul Rahman said.
