Sharjah: Sharjah Transport authorities have cancelled bus No. 10 and bus No. 1 will have its route changed as of today.
"We received many proposals from the public through our hotline number, who wanted changes done to bus No. 1. After the road works were completed on King Abdul Aziz Road, we were able to carry out a comprehensive study and meet the demands of the public," said Rabaa Mohammed Al Marzouqi, head of public transport franchise department at Sharjah Transport.
Redundant
"In turn, we cancelled out bus No. 10 because it was redundant,"
Rabaa explained to Gulf News that bus No. 10 was launched last January and covered areas from Ittihad Square to Wasit, which passed through Al Rolla, Al Zahra Street, King Faisal Street, King Abdul Aziz Street and Al Khan Street.
Bus No. 1 previously covered the route from Al Nahda station to Sharjah International Airport, and passed through Al Khan Road, Industrial Street No. 2, Maleha Road and National Paints.
As of today however, bus No. 1 will start its route from Al Rolla to Industrial Street No. 4. The new route will cover the areas of Al Zahra Street, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Street, then on to Sharjah Ring Road. It will then continue to National Paints Roundabout, Maleha Road and Industrial Street No. 4.
"We are planning to make further changes to the number of bus lines within the city in order to meet the operational requirements and meet the needs of the public," Rabaa pointed out.
She noted that commuters who used to take bus No. 10 can now take the alternative routes of bus numbers 2, 3, 5 and 14.
Bus No. 2 covers the areas from Port Khalid to Al Sharq Station, passing through King Faisal Street. Bus No. 3 stops at Wasit and Industrial Street 1, and bus No. 5 covers the areas between Al Khan Street and Industrial Street 2.
