Security to increase at major bus stations
Dubai: Security at Dubai's major bus stations will be beefed up following complaints of queue jumping, harassment of female passengers and incidents of pick pockets, said a senior official.
"We are going to increase the number of security personnel deputed at main bus stations including Al Ghubaibah, Al Rashidiya and Sabkha to ensure safety of passengers and to properly maintain the queue system," said Abdullah Al Ali, Director of the Dubai Public Transport Department at the Dubai Transport Agency (PTA) of the Roads and Transport Authority.
He said that security personnel would also inspect busy bus stops to ensure safety and security of passengers using public transport. "The decision has been taken to ensure a smooth journey for passengers," he said.

Meanwhile, the PTA has advised bus passengers to take extra care of their belongings while travelling on public buses.
He said the RTA was not responsible for loss of a passenger's belongings, wallet or mobile phone. However, he said that a victim should immediately report the matter to the driver or the security officials at the stations.
The RTA is also preparing to launch an awareness campaign for bus users in Dubai to ensure a safe journey on public transport buses.
The RTA's plan came after Gulf News published a report about the increasing number of incidents of pick pocketing in public buses.
