Salik offences now in pictures online

Motorists can now see images of their vehicles and any Salik fines online if they have doubts of committing toll gate offences, said a senior official at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Dubai: Motorists can now see images of their vehicles and any Salik fines online if they have doubts of committing toll gate offences, said a senior official at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

"The main aim in introducing the new service is to help people verify their Salik offences by letting them see images of their vehicles with the time and date of getting fined at the toll gates," said Engineer Maitha Obaid Bin Udai, Chief Executive Officer of the RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency.

Motorists can see images of their vehicles by logging into the Salik website. "Users can see a full list of their fines with time and date along with the image of the vehicles," she said.

"A lot of motorists have shown concern over Salik fines and tried to deny having received one but the new service will help them. The problem of disputed fines is more common with those who have more than one vehicle under one account, whether they are individuals or companies," Maitha said.

She said the RTA has been trying to boost the confidence of customers since the introduction of Salik. "We have been upgrading the system to ensure transparency and offer better service to subscriber of Salik."

Customers can also use the website to top up their Salik account.

Salik, which means clear, is the name of Dubai's toll gate system that was introduced in July 2007 in a bid to ensure smooth traffic flow on Dubai roads.

Currently, there are four Salik toll gates in Dubai, one each on Al Garhoud Bridge and Al Maktoum Bridge, and two on Shaikh Zayed Road — one between Interchange 1 and 2 and the other near Al Barsha.

Motorists have to pay Dh4 each time they cross a Salik toll gate. The money is deducted automatically from the Salik chip used on vehicles' wind screens.

I was charged Salik fines by mistake. It has been nearly 2 months,but no refund has been sent to me.

Everyone can check their Salik violations on the website now. It is a good move by the RTA. An option of paying the fines through a bank account must also be introduced.

I have recently renewed my car registration and I was told there are no fines. Later when i checked online salik I found that there are 6 fines due to an insufficient balance. Upon speaking to their call centre they told me that I have to pay all of these fines.

I don't see the point of Salik existing. Shaikh Zayed Road is still continuously busy.
