RTA to assist travellers by issuing international driving licences in Dubai
International driving licences (IDL) and permission to travel in private cars to other countries will now be issued by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Dubai: International driving licences (IDL) and permission to travel in private cars to other countries will now be issued by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
"This is the first time that services for the IDL and customs documents to assist travellers who want to use their vehicles to cross into neighbouring GCC states, have been regulated," said Mohammad Ahmad Bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Emirates Automobile and Touring Club (EATC). He warned travellers from taking IDL from unauthorised touring clubs.
Customs documents
He said EATC is the only affiliated member of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), and International Association of Tour (AIT) in the UAE.
The RTA yesterday signed an agreement with EATC regarding the issuing of IDL and customs documents necessary for motorists to cross borders using their vehicles.
"Following this agreement, travellers holding official travelling tickets issued from the EATC will find it easier to cross borders to countries neighbouring the GCC and to other countries in the Middle East," said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA.
