Dubai: Commuters can now use Google to plan their journey on Dubai's public transport system.

"Dubai is the first city in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to have its public transport network in the digital space known as Google," Abdullah Al Madani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Corporate Technical Support Services Sector at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, told Gulf News.

He said the new initiative would help public bus users plan their daily travels in advance through the internet.

"Visitors can plan their trips even before arriving in Dubai," he added.

Al Madani said more facilities would be added on Google Maps and commuters would be able to download and print route maps for car use. "Routes for the water transport and the Dubai Metro, including location of stations and timings, would also soon be uploaded on Google Maps," he added.

Wael Ghonim, Google's Regional Product & Marketing Manager, said: "The ability to track the best route for your daily travels over the PC or mobile phone is a priceless tool for users all over the emirate."
