This was discussed at a meeting of the Dubai general budget committee for 2010.

We have to face traffic jams on sheikh zayed road even if we pay salik tolls. if Salik policy is only to reduce traffic jams then y its charging on fridays or in the mid night ? Now most of vehicles are going by emirates road for avoiding salik tolls and traffic. RTA should announce some alternates roads for avoiding salik .

The first gates on SZR merely succeeded in taking traffic from the main road, where it should be, and pushing on to adjacent roads which should be for local traffic.

I dont think its the right idea to keep a salik on emirates road as I use it every day for going and coming back from my office. Like me many people use it commonly and doing this could cause much more traffic and irritation for the people. In this situation I will have the use all the difficult roads to reach my house in sharjah. I request the authority not to do this during this period atleast.

Put all the proper public infrastructures first, complete the Metro Line and the Bus Routes and then, if you really have to, put SALIK. And activate SALIK gates only during rush hours. There's no need to charge us during midnight when most of the people are sleeping. This is a humanitarian act esp. during these hard times.

There is STILL traffic everywhere despite the fact that people like me have to pay a minimum of 16 AED per day on Salik. At economic times like that, the community needs to be considered as they are the backbone of this city's infrastructure.

Well, its not the right time still, Having not much alternative routes and people already burdened with existing gates. I request RTA to postpone this untill there is enough alternatives offered.

If Salik is for road development then a toll on the Emirates Road can be justifiied particularly as the Bypass road is now ready - however first n foremost Salik needs to come at the Dubai borders with Sharjah.

When Salik was first introducted, it was mentioned to push people to use other roads and decrease traffic on Shaikh Zayed. So, it there is Salik now on Shaikh Zayed and will be on Emirates Road, so which road shall we take,......the sky.
