Dubai: Completion of the road-widening project will considerably reduce traffic congestion on Al Maktoum Bridge, an official said.

The expanded Al Maktoum Bridge with increased number of lanes will be opened for traffic on November 6, said Maitha Obaid Bin Udai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

She said expansion work done at Al Maktoum Bridge include widening of roads leading to the bridge, and widening the access to the bridge at Umm Harir Road from two to three lanes from Bur Dubai side. This will increase the capacity of the bridge and ease congestion for traffic coming to the bridge from Shaikh Zayed Road towards Deira.

"Improvement works and widening of the bridge also included increasing the number of lanes from Deira to Bur Dubai side from four to six lanes.

"This has been done through utilising the existing space between the movable parts of the bridge," she said. The bridge can now capable of accommodating some 9,500 vehicles per hour.
