Dubai: A collision involving a waste water truck and a big container truck on Ras Al Khor bridge towards the Al Warqa bridge killed one person and caused a massive traffic jam on Tuesday morning, according to the Dubai Police.

The waste water truck crashed into the back of the container truck, crushing the front of the vehicle and killing the driver. Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Acting Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, said that according to initial investigation, the driver of the waste water truck was speeding and failed to leave enough space between his vehicle and the truck ahead, resulting in the crash.

As of 11am, police were still trying to clear the crash site, using a crane to carefully hoist a dislodged waste water tank off the road. Several police vehicles and emergency trucks were at the crash site as workers tried to clear debris from the road. Only two lanes on the bridge were clear to traffic.

The accident caused a massive traffic tailback that started at around 8am, with vehicles stuck in a traffic jam as far back as near International City. On its twitter account, the Dubai Police (@DubaiPoliceHQ) warned motorists of a traffic jam following the accident. A few commuters tweeted about the incident.
