Vital infrastructure getting a facelift

Last updated:

Ras Al Khaimah:  The vital infrastructure in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, including the cities and the remote areas, are getting a facelift.

The Public Works Department said it would implement several infrastructure-development projects to keep up with the economic and investment growth in the emirate.

Public Works Department head Abdullah Yousuf Al Ali said the move is in line with the directives of Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

"Shaikh Saud has issued instructions to speed up the development and maintenance of road networks to cope with the emirate's growing population and the economic and social development," Al Ali said.

The projects involved improving and maintaining the existing roads and constructing new ones, as part of a master plan to develop the emirate's city and remote areas, he said.

Al Ali said priority will be given to the badly affected roads which desperately needed maintenance, and to maintaining vital roads.

Parking spaces

The department was now working on Al Muaireedh Road, a two kilometre double carriageway, and on building pavements and creating parking space on the two sides of the road.

It was also working on adding two new lanes to the four-kilometre Al Seeh Road, and on building a new road linking the Etislat Road to Gobash Hospital Road.

The new road would be on parallel to the Al Nakheel Road, Al Ali said.

He said most the emirate's roads would be developed and improved. Other projects included the construction of new roads and water sewer openings to prevent roads from being flooded in winter.

A drainage system would also be built in parts, he said. Al Ali said the department had many other plans on the drawing board, expected to be implemented soon as part of the emirate's overall development plan.
