Abu Dhabi: The traffic signals on the busy interchange at Electra (Shaikh Zayed the Second Street) and Muroor streets (Fourth Street) are turning green for pedestrians and vehicles at the same time, complain residents.
The pedestrian crossing, halfway from the Lifeline hospital to the Chinese Medical Centre, and the traffic signal on the Electra-Muroor street junction turn green simultaneously, annoying both pedestrians and motorists.
To compound the problem, there is no lane for turning right from Electra Street to Muroor Street while going towards Hamdan Street.
"A lot of confusion and near-hits occur, especially on weekends and in the evenings," said Mohammad Arshad, a regular commuter on the street.
The case is the same for the pedestrian crossing halfway from the Chinese Medical Centre to National Bank of Dubai, he added.
"I'm extra careful when I pass by this area," says Arshad, adding that he has experienced the problem as both a pedestrian and as a driver.
"I used to stay in the area and have seen many people being injured on this spot or narrowly escaping an accident," he says.
