Part of Salam Street in Abu Dhabi to be closed for 18 months from Friday
A project, which will transform Salam Street into a free-flow facility without traffic signals, will start on Friday, a senior official said on Thursday.
Abu Dhabi: The thoroughfare linking Salam Street and Muroor Road (Street No. 31) will be partially closed on Friday to facilitate a project aimed at paving the way for a "free-flowing" (without signals) traffic pattern on Salam Street, a senior official said yesterday.
Juma Mubarak Juma Al Junaibi, general manager of Abu Dhabi Municipality, said the Salam Street project is in keeping with the capital's strategic vision of offering facilities on par with other major cities in the world. The project is also a timely response to the massive population growth and consequent demand on the city's infrastructure, Al Junaibi said.
The works undertaken today will be the first phase of the Salam Street Improvement Project, the municipality's comprehensive development plan and infrastructure upgrade in the Salam and Eastern Ring Road areas.
The best way to get to Street No. 31, according to Engineer Mohammad Ahmad Al Katheeri, project manager, is through Street No. 29. He advised motorists coming from Maqta and Musaffah Road to take alternative routes, for example, through Airport Road and Khaleej Al Arabi to reach the Corniche.
The Salam Street project includes the establishment of a series of tunnels and surface roadways and junctions that run along Salam Street and leads to Mina Road.
