Abu Dhabi: The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi has started enforcing rules banning drivers from parking their vehicles in unpaved and sandy areas, subject to Mawaqif management.

Engineer Najeeb Al Zarouni, general manager of parking at the Department of Transport, said the ban is being enforced to encourage members of the public to use Mawaqif while also protecting the unpaved areas and safeguarding the underground utilities against damage due to parking. Violators will be fined Dh200.

Regulate parking

"Parking in sandy and unpaved areas can lead to accidents because of the unauthorised entry and exit to and from these areas.

Moreover, the move helps regulate parking and is another step towards building a positive and modern image for Abu Dhabi."

The DoT also said sandy and unpaved areas will be under continuous surveillance by Mawaqif officers and violators of the rule will face Dh200 fine.

Meanwhile, starting from July 3, drivers will have to pay to park their cars in three sectors in Al Falah area, a senior official said Thursday.

Engineer Najeeb Al Zarouni, general manager of Parking at the Department of Transport, said the areas are located between Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street and Al Salam Street, and between Hazza Bin Zayed Street and Al Falah Street. Paid parking will be enforced in these areas from 8am to 10pm, Saturdays to Thursdays.

Al Zarouni said Mawaqif paid parking system was created to serve society.
