Abu Dhabi: A young Emirati died and three others were injured in a car crash on Monday evening.

The 25-year-old Emirati was driving at excessive speed when his car collided with another vehicle, police say. The collision cost him his life and injured his friend, 27.

The 19-year-old driver of the other vehicle, and his companion, 23, were injured as well. All three survivors are Emiratis and they sustained severe to moderate injuries.

"The deceased was driving at excessive speed when he collided with another vehicle, which caused the tyre of his vehicle to burst leading both vehicles to overturn according to initial reports," said Colonel Hamad Al Beloushi, director of the External Roads Section in the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrol Department.

"The operation room got an emergency report about the accident that took place at Suwaihan Street close to Al Falah bridge. Police cars and ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene. Investigations are ongoing to discover more details of the accident," Al Beloushi added.

He called on motorists, especially young drivers, to observe speed limits and be attentive to their surroundings for their safety and for the welfare of society.
