Dubai: Traffic fines can now be paid at any Dubai police stations, said Colonel Naeem Mohammad Al Khateeb, Director of Revenue Management and Funds at the Dubai Police headquarters.

Starting last May, the system was implemented in six police stations and by June most police stations facilitated the payment of traffic fines, which was previously restricted to be paid at the General Department of Traffic, Al Khateeb said.

Payments can now be made through specialised customer service personnel at any of the Dubai Police stations and can be paid using cash or credit card. But if the car is to be impounded, then one would be referred to the Traffic Department.

Fines can also be paid through the Dubai Police website and at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA.)

Al Khateeb said about 60 per cent of traffic fine payments are made in cash and 40 per cent are paid through credit cards, e-government and other electronic means.

Positive feedback

He said they got positive feedback after the new system was introduced, as a significant number of people paid fines at police stations in the past three months, especially in places such as Jebel Ali and Hatta.

He said this came as a pleasant surprise due to the fact that the new system had not been widely publicised.

Al Khateeb said the goal behind the new system was to reach as many people as possible and make it easier for them to pay their fines.

Around Dh1 billion in fines was paid last year, which amounts to 70 per cent of the total fines, Al Khateeb indicated. The remaining unpaid 30 per cent include fines that had not been paid for years, and he said these were good figures.
